 Interdisciplinary course that examines the rich diversity of African American experiences through direct encounters with rich and varied sources.  Students explore key topics that extend from early African kingdoms to the ongoing challenges and achievements of the contemporary moment.

  Introductory college-level composition course.  Students cultivate their understanding of writing and rhetorical arguments through reading, analyzing and writing texts as they explore topics like rhetorical situations, claims and evidence, reasoning and organization, and style.

Introductory college-level literary analysis course.  Students cultivate their understanding of literature through reading and analyzing texts as they explore concepts like character, setting, structure, perspective, figurative language, and literary analysis in the context of literary works

This course emphasizes oral participation, critical thinking, and creative expression through diverse resources and experiences. Students will develop as writers, avid readers, and analytical thinkers, preparing for rigorous college studies. Focus on analysis, interpretation, expository writing, and vocabulary development.

This course challenges academically capable students to excel in writing, speaking, and reading through the study and analysis of major English and world literary works across various genres, from ancient to modern. Students will develop higher-order thinking skills and logical organization in essays, discussions, and presentations, preparing them for success in college and the workplace. Emphasis is placed on clear, fluent communication with strong diction and correct grammar.

Speech is a one-semester course introducing students to communication concepts and ethical rhetoric while improving their speaking and analytical skills. Students practice various speech types, including informational, persuasive, and impromptu, in a supportive environment designed to ease public speaking anxiety

Master linear relationships and craft arguments to solve real-world problems. Explore Quadratic and Exponential models.

Focus on concepts of measurement, analysis, and proof in contexts of shape, space, and data. Right triangle trigonometry is also included

Solidify and extend the understanding of functions and data analysis.

Mastery of modeling and functions, and examine scenarios through multiple representations.

Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data using various calculations, while visualizing data through graphs and charts to draw meaningful conclusions.

    Cultivate understanding of statistics using technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as we explore concepts like variation and distribution; patterns and uncertainty; and data-based predictions, decisions, and conclusions.   

 In Pre-AP Biology, students engage in real-world data analysis and problem solving that sparks critical thinking about our living world.  The Pre-AP Biology course has four main units: Ecological Systems, Evolution, Cellular Systems, and Genetics

In Pre-AP Chemistry, students develop a deep conceptual understanding of matter and energy at the molecular level as they learn to explain their macroscopic observations using particulate-level reasoning.  The Pre-AP Chemistry course has four main units: Structure and Properties of Matter, Chemical Bonding and Interactions, Chemical Quantities, and Chemical Transformations.

The Physics course is designed to expose students to the nature of science and scientific inquiry in order to highlight the role of science in society and technology.  The Physics course explores a host of topics, including one- and two-dimensional motion, vectors, forces, momentum and collisions, work and energy, electricity, and magnetism with a focus on the cross-cutting concepts of pattern, energy and matter, cause and effect, and stability and change

  Anatomy and Physiology is an introduction to the specialized anatomical terms, basic concepts, and principles important to an understanding of the human body. It is a continuation of Biology, specifically focusing on the human body. This course provides opportunities for students to develop scientific inquiry skills, laboratory techniques and an understanding of human body systems.  Students will explore human anatomy and physiology in levels of organization, support and movement, integration and coordination, transport, absorption and excretion and the human life cycle.

AP Biology is an introductory college-level biology course.  Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics like evolution, energetics, information storage and transfer, and system interactions

AP Chemistry is an introductory college-level chemistry course. Students cultivate their understanding of chemistry through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics like atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions, kinetics, equilibrium, and thermodynamics

Pre-AP World History and Geography focuses deeply on the concepts and skills that have maximum value for high school, college, careers, and civic life. The course builds students’ essential skills and confidence and helps to prepare them for a range of AP history and social science coursework during high school, including AP Human Geography and AP World History.

This semester course is a requirement for graduation. The class has four goals: 1) to stimulate interest and activity in our American Government; 2) to provide essential understanding of the operations of our government; 3) to promote careful thinking about governmental problems; and 4) to encourage active participation in governmental activities. It is designed to survey the political system with emphasis on the three branches of government, civil liberties, civil rights, voting patterns and bureaucracy.

Economics is a one-semester class that offers a detailed survey of various economic systems, philosophies, and structures. Extensive reading, writing, and critical thinking skills useful in higher education will be emphasized. In addition, the course is designed to provide students with an understanding of market forces (supply and demand, prices, GDP, taxes); various economic indicators that chart economic activity; the role market structures play in economic sustainability; as well as exposure to the international economic system

This full year course introduces students to the study of world history in order to construct a common memory of where humankind has been and what accounts for present circumstances.  Emphasis is placed on skills that enable students to evaluate evidence, develop comparative and causal analyses, interpret the historical record, construct sound historical arguments, and recognize perspectives on which informed decisions in contemporary life can be based.  The integration of historical thinking skills and historical understandings throughout this course equips students to analyze issues and problems confronting citizens today.

This year-long course is a requirement for graduation. The objective of this course is to increase the student’s understanding of United States history. The areas of concentration for this course include historical, political, economic, and social history. This course will emphasize the content, standards, and benchmarks established by the State Core Curriculum.

In Modern AP World History, students investigate significant events, individuals, developments, and processes from 1200 to the present. Students develop and use the same skills, practices, and methods employed by historians: analyzing primary and secondary sources; developing historical arguments; making historical connections; and utilizing reasoning about comparison, causation, and continuity and change over time. Modern AP World History is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college or university survey of modern world history. Successful completion of this course and of the AP World History test may allow students greater access to classes not normally taken until their sophomore year of college.

 United States Government and Politics is an intensive study of the formal and informal structures of government and the processes of the American political system, with emphasis on policy-making and implementation. Students will become acquainted with the variety of theoretical perspectives and explanations for various behaviors and outcomes in government and politics. Additionally, students will be able to analyze and interpret basic data relevant to U.S Government and Politics.

The Advanced Placement U.S. History course is designed to provide students with the analytic skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in U.S. history. The program prepares students for intermediate and advanced college courses by making demands upon them equivalent to those made by full-year introductory college courses.
